Hi,

Just tried Stomp's BackupMyPC (30 day evaluation copy v5.0) for
Win-XP, and it restored my XP C: drive flawlessly (I think! :), using
floppies and my CD-recovery restore backup.

Just a couple of questions:

If I purchase Stomp Backup My PC (online store, cheaper that way),
the newest version I have found ($49.00) is v4.85.

I see Stomp will update v4.8x to v5.0 for free. If I purchase version
4.85, will they also offer free updates for 'future' updates to
version 5.0, or must I purchase v5.0, for future v5.0 updates?

Also, when testing disater-recovery, I noticed it asked if I would
like to restore my 'original' hardware-profile, or the (recommended)
'let WinXP handle hardware-setup'. 1st test, I chose the 'recommended'
method, and let XP handle hardware-setup, even though no hardware was
changed.

Should I have used my original (backed-up) hardware setup, or is
it best to run the 'recommended' hardware restore selection?

Only other thing, I had to call MS and re-register WinXP again. Is
this normal for a disaster-recovery? Or was this caused by letting
WinXP handle the 'recommended' hardware-setup recovery during the
restore?

After 1 week of H*** trying to get another brand backup-program
working, Stomp's Backup My PC program is very straight-forward, simple
and it works! I see it uses floppy disks to restore, not that big of a
deal though.

BackupMyPC uses a proprietary file format.

Nothing will open your file except BackupMyPC.

Keep that in mind if you intent to use it for archiving.

It is highly unlikely that the application will be around in several
years or that it will run on the current OS.

Don't buy directly from Stomp.
You should be able to find lower prices by checking at www.pricegrabber.com
and your favorite vendors, such as www.provantage.com.
