Is Stomp out of business? I can't a response from their web sites,
either www.stompinc.com or www.stompsoft.com.

I have owned BackupMyPC since it was created by Veritas, but I can't
reach their Sonic update site either.

I had no problems with either link... except it was a little slow.

Thanks, John! I tried again this morning and had no problem myself.
They must have had a temporary server outage.

I see that Sonic software has acquired the BackupMyPC software. Since Sonic
has also acquired Roxio, I see that BackupMyPC is also in the Roxio EZ Media
Creator 7.5 software bundle.

I also bought the upgrade to version 6 for BackupMyPC from Stomp and it
doesn't work. I currently use version 4.85 which is a valid version
(according to their website) for the 6 upgrade, but upgrade file says it's
not a valid version.

Upgrading just isn't as easy as it used to be.

If your version 4.85 is an upgrade itself, then it won't be
recognized. I have a version 4.81 that I unzipped into a local
directory, then pointed version 6.0 to that directory as my valid
version. It was happy with that and installed successfully.

I did one backup of my data partition with it, and all seemed to go OK
except "shadow copy" wouldn't work.

Today, I prefer using Acronis True Image for backups. I only use
BackupMyPC for selected files and directories when appropriate.

That's weird,

I pointed it to my installed 4.85, not an upgrade disk. I also tried
pointing it to every version I kept along the way (saved folders) and it
didn't like any of them.

No matter, I have the new version 6 that came along with Roxio's Easy Media
Creator 7.5 .

Now I see that Stomp doesn't answer my support ticket on their web site. Go
figure.

I downloaded version 6 but like you it would not upgrade saying a valid
product was not found. I called Stomp and they asked if 4.85 was upgraded
from a previous release. I said it was. They quickly gave me a download
URL to a complete version which installed just fine.. I've had no problems
since...

Does this backup to standard Zip files?

No. The program was originally developed to back up to quarter-inch
tape, or "QIC". That is the resultant file extension when backing to
a file. It is readable only by BackupMyPC and other backup programs
that use QIC.

Then I don't want the program.
